Calendar management drives goal achievement đ

Is your calendar in order â in a way that enables the implementation and development of your key objectives? Are you progressing systematically towards your organisation's and your own goals? Do you schedule key tasks? đ Â
In a change project I led, calendar management emerged as one of the key success factors. Specifically, the systematic allocation of time to activities that drive operations and objectives forward. It became possible to exclude many things from the calendar that were suggested by various parts of the organisation and stakeholders who were unaware of the key results these managers needed to achieve in their roles. The clear conclusion was that calendar management drives goal achievement.
In Stephen R. Covey's book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the importance of a personal mission and time management for achieving effectiveness is emphasised. Covey recommends drafting a personal mission statement that serves as a life guide, based on values, purpose, and long-term goals. The mission should reflect timeless principles that bring meaning and consistency to life.Â
One principle of effectiveness and productivity that Covey highlights is managing your own calendar. The calendar should reflect important tasks that support long-term goals, not just urgent matters.Â
Strong organisations also have a strong, shared mission. This also influences how members of the organisation spend their time and what activities and meetings their calendars consist of. To succeed in an organisation, an individual's own mission should be aligned with the organisation's mission.Â
When considering a person's core â to borrow an idea from Aki Hintsa's book The Core (Voittamisen anatomia) â an individual's mission can be much broader than that of the company. A person may have elements in their mission related to life achievements or their perceived life purpose. Ultimately, however, some shared part of these missions must be aligned between the individual's mission and the company's mission, operations, and goals.Â
The determining factors for the content of a personal calendar â encompassing both work and leisure time â should therefore be the priorities set by the organisation's mission and goals, as well as the requirements of one's own professional role.Â
So, take control of your calendar and ensure it supports both personal and organisational goals and missions! đÂ
